We are currently out of stock of this and any other teas made with Pu-erh Tea. This is due to a shortage of good quality, organic loose pu-erh tea, which is a key ingredient. Pu-erh is a specially aged tea & due to sudden popularity in China a few years ago, low quality counterfeit Pu-erh flooded the market. When made properly, this tea undergoes an unique post-fermentation process which is associated with many digestive and health benefits. When made improperly, it may contain harmful microbes or lack the healthful properties this tea traditionally has.

In the meantime, we do have small quantities of good quality Pu-erh Tea available in pressed form as Tuo-Chas or Tea Cakes. Enjoy these while we wait for good quality, organic pu-erh to go through a cellaring process so that we can make the other teas again

For a similar taste to Green Dragon, brew equal parts Tuo Cha Pu-erh with Westcoast Peppermint Tea.

For Ginseng & Ginger, mix Winter Warrior with Pu-erh.

For Golden Phoenix combine Blood Orange with Pu-erh.

Our Pu-erh tea cakes are produced from Pu-erh tea that is grown at high altitudes in Yunnan Province, China. The tea goes through a process of special fermentation, aging, steaming, and compression. It is characterised by a bright red-yellow infusion and sweet, mellow taste.

Pu-erh tea cakes, which are referred to as both pingcha and beeng cha, are “new Pu-erh.” This means that the tea is aged for approximately one year, as opposed to our loose Pu-erh, which is aged for 12 years.

The introduction of moisture at several stages speeds up the aging process. The Pu-erh tea cakes acquire their special properties in a shorter period of time, and do not need to age in caves, as does regular Pu-erh.

New Pu-erh is perfect for cellaring like wine. If you buy the tea cakes and allow them to age, they will increase in value over time, and the depth of flavour will intensify. Some Pu-erh tea cakes have sold for more than USD $30,000 each.
