I love summertime & take advantage of the long days & warm weather to enjoy the outdoors. I can’t seem to ever get enough of frosty summer drinks & icy treats, but they can be source of hidden sugar, artificial flavours, chemicals & calories, so I stay hydrated with healthy home-made recipes that are rich in flavor, but not calories or chemicals. There are some downsides to fun in the sun, including sunburns, heatstroke, bug bites & wasps. Increased sun exposure also means it’s important to help repair & nourish your skin. NATURAL INSECT REPELLENT Our GREAT BEAR RAINFOREST products contain extracts from BC tree species that are natural, non-toxic insect repellants. Apply GREAT BEAR LOTION to exposed skin before a picnic, hike or when camping. I also wear the GREAT BEAR ROLL-ON to intensify the effect of the lotion. An added bonus is the beautiful fresh, revitalizing scent. Use GREAT BEAR hand soap, shampoo & conditioner when camping– they are biodegradable & are also natural insect repellents.
WARD OFF WASPS, FLIES & INSECTS Add 5-10 drops GREAT BEAR DIFFUSER BLEND to an electric diffuser. It releases an all-natural mist that is non-toxic & smells like the fresh forest while warding off bugs. Use indoors, or in the backyard to keep outdoor gatherings pest-free.
BUG BITES Our HEADACHE & HANGOVER REMEDY ROLL-ON is fabulous for soothing the itch & redness of bug bites. Re-apply as often as needed for relief.
STAY HYDRATED Even if you’re simply sitting in the sun & not being active, it’s easy to get dehydrated in hot weather. Headaches, heatstroke, heart palpitations, nausea, fatigue, digestive & sleep issues can arise. Increasing fluid intake is important, but beware, because not all drinks are hydrating! It’s best to limit sugary drinks for adults & kids (including pop & fruit juice). They can negatively impact energy levels, are dehydrating & a hidden source of calories, chemicals, dyes & many other ingredients that aren’t healthful. Avoid high levels of caffeine (you’ll dehydrate more quickly). It can make you less tolerant of heat & lead to other issues including heart palpitations. When you’re sweating, you’re losing minerals as well as water. To compensate, I drink teas that are low in caffeine & naturally sweet, but are high in minerals & electrolytes. I alternate between electrolyte rich QUENCH TEA (with replenishing minerals & vitamins), & BeauTEAful TEA which tastes more refreshing than water, & provides me with an abundance of skin-loving antioxidants.

STAY COOL When on road trips, camping, hiking, at weddings, outdoor gatherings, or anytime I need to cool down quickly, my secret weapon is SEA BOTANICAL MIST (spring water infused with peppermint, rosemary & eucalyptus).
