Tea bricks have been manufactured in China for over 2000 years. The tea is steamed and forced under hydraulic pressure into flat bricks, reducing the amount of surface area exposed to air. As a result, tea bricks are ideal for transport and travelled to the farthest reaches of the Chinese Empire and along the Silk Road on camel caravans. From the 10th to the beginning of the 20th century, tea bricks were widely used as a form of currency. In Mongolia and Tibet, brick tea was traded for wool, furs, skins, musk, horses and medicinal herbs, and remain widely used today. Tea bricks may have been the first type of tea to reach Russia. Tea bricks can also be used for decorative purposes.
Our love of fine tea, craftsmanship and passion are reflected in every expertly blended cup of tea.
