TEA OF INSPIRATION
flavour profile: intoxicating, uplifting vanilla notes with a smooth & rich ceylon finish
ingredients: Ceylon black tea grown at 6000 feet, vanilla bean & essence
We are running very low on this popular tea & have smaller sizes (mini-tins, 40 & 80 cup tins or refills) available for purchase only. Larger bulk refills & tins are not available at this time.
Our VANILLA PLANTATION is made with authentic, organic vanilla instead of artificial flavours. This is a rarity as most teas in North America with vanilla in them use artificial flavours or a combination of natural (but not organic) & artificial flavours.
Using real vanilla & premium grade organic black tea is what makes this tea so delicious & unique! However, there are currently shortages of vanilla beans as well as the black tea that is used in this blend.
If you normally purchase a larger size, we recommend you get the 80 cup refill size to tide you over for now. We appreciate your patience & understanding.
Please note that this tea is in the process of a name change! This tea’s name is a reference to tea gardens. In the world of tea, the term “plantation” is commonly used to refer to tea gardens & tea estates in parts of Asia, & does not have a connection to the plantation system in the United States, which involved slavery. However, as this word has a meaning beyond the one we intend, we are no longer comfortable with the use of “plantation” in this tea's name.
Black lives matter. We do not wish to suggest in any way that we are supportive of any system of oppression, or of racism in any form—which is what has led us to the decision to change the name of this tea.
Rather than making this name change without notifying you, we wanted to be transparent by letting you know what we are doing & why we’re doing it. Our goal is to make the world a more welcoming & inclusive place. Part of how we do that is to be mindful of our impact on others, to adjust accordingly & to be open about when we can improve.
Since our inception, we have supported better working conditions for those who farm our teas abroad. At home, we have also contributed to organizations that support black, indigenous & people of colour. These groups continue to need our support more than ever in our words & actions.
We’ll be posting further updates about this here, including what we’ve been doing to support BIPOC this past year... & what the new name of this tea will be!
Pour 2 cups of water over 1 tsp. of SILK ROAD premium quality, organic loose tea. This may not seem like a lot of tea but SILK ROAD teas are incredibly fresh & flavourful, which means that you don’t need very much in order to produce a delicious cup of tea. Using any more tea leaves can result in a cup of tea that is too strong.

Loose teas are sold in refillable tins to preserve the tea’s superb flavour, freshness and nutrients. Normally, we encourage you to bring your empty tins into our shops to refill. However, this is currently on pause due to COVID-19. We’re delighted to offer another eco-friendly, low-waste way to re-use your tins!
Brown bag refills are available when you purchase tea in-store and online. Simply select “refill” to receive your tea in a brown bag refill. Immediately transfer the tea to the original tin it came in, once the brown bag refill is home or has arrived in the mail. Brown bags are 100% recyclable, compostable, biodegradable and made of post-consumer recycled paper.
CAN I STORE TEA IN THE BROWN BAG REFILL? No, it is a short term method for transport only and is not suitable for storing. It will not maintain tea’s freshness, nutrients and flavour. It does not protect against exposure to air, liquid or moisture. Air exposure causes nutrient & flavour loss; liquid/moisture causes tea to mildew. As soon as you get home from the shop, or when it arrives in the mail, transfer tea immediately into Silk Road tins - they are designed to preserve the tea.
ABOUT TEA SIZES Refer to the above chart - our loose teas are sold by volume, not weight.
