Blueberry Energy Shake
Feeling sluggish in body or mind? Or craving a sugary treat? This restorative tonic has a dessert-like taste that is a hit with all age groups, but is lower in sugar.
It’s perfect anytime you need a caffeine-free lift, or when you’ve been over-indulging. It features nutrient dense, antioxidant rich local BC blueberries - which can be purchased fresh in season, or enjoyed year round frozen.
Blueberries are an excellent source of vitamins as well as anthocyanin - an anti-inflammatory antioxidant that causes them to have their rich blue colour. They also contain less sugar than many other fruits, & have a healthy combination of soluble and insoluble fibre. The advantage of this is that they have kind of a time-release effect as you digest them, preventing blood sugar from spiking or crashing, & providing a longer lasting energy boost. This also makes them ideal for anyone working on managing blood sugar levels (such as pre-diabetics, or diabetics, or for weight management).
Ginger stimulates the circulation, has immune-boosting properties & has an enlivening effect. Our WILDBERRY WAVE tea contains rooibos, which contains a plethora of soothing, calming, anti-inflammatory minerals & antioxidants. Flax seed oil is also rich in anti-inflammatory elements & healthy fat, which supports energy levels.
Enjoy this as a mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack drink, or as a healthier dessert alternative to milkshakes or frozen drinks. It’s naturally sweet without added sugar, but if you feel the need for sweets, try adding a bit of maple syrup.
We love this recipe with our herbal WILDBERRY WAVE tea, but it’s also yummy with WINTER WARRIOR, SOUR CHERRY + ALLERGY & HAY FEVER DEFENSE teas.

BLUEBERRY ENERGY SHAKE
dairy-free, gluten-free & vegan
makes 1 servingINGREDIENTS
1 teaspoon WILDBERRY WAVE tea
1 cup water
¼ cup frozen or fresh BC Blueberries
1 ½ cups oat milk
1 tsp flaxseed oil
¼ inch fresh peeled ginger
optional: 1 teaspoon maple syrup
DIRECTIONS
1. The night before, you can start a cold brew of the tea by simply putting the tea in a pitcher in fridge. Cold brewing involves steeping the tea leaves in cold water. Get the method for cold-brewing tea here. You can also use leftover tea in this recipe that has been chilled, or you can brew the tea in ½ cup hot water. When it’s done steeping, shake over ½ cup of ice to chill instantly.
2. Combine chilled tea with the remaining ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth.
