Boost Energy in 5 Minutes Without Caffeine
by Tea Master DANIELA CUBELIC
This ultra-simple sequence combines aromatherapy, acupressure & the benefits of breathwork.
It feels amazing & gives you an instant, yet long-lasting boost of energy.
Do it anytime, anywhere in the time it takes to brew a cup of tea.
The life of an entrepreneur can be physically & mentally demanding. My workdays & work weeks can be long & high stress, all of which are not good for well-being.
So I developed this sequence as a quick way to restore energy, without reaching for caffeine or treats (which can feel good in the moment, but ultimately let you down).
I hope it brings vitaliTEA into your life whenever you need it. Use it during the workday, when you’re travelling, when you’re jetlagged, when there’s been a time change, when you didn’t sleep well, or in general to optimize your energy levels.

Roll a small amount of any of these aromatherapy roll-ons onto the palms of your hands. For an energizing, minty reviver use HEADACHE & HANGOVER TONIC ROLL-ON. For an uplifting burst of sunshine, reach for HAPPY ROLL-ON. During allergy season, to support respiratory & sinus health & for a haven of head-clearing eucalyptus & other oils, use ALLERGY & HAY FEVER DEFENSE.
-
Rub hands together vigorously while you breathe in & out about five times. Then turn your hands towards your face & enjoy the scent of the aromatherapy oils. Feel your lungs expand to take in the rejuvenating scents. Take five relaxed breaths in & out, going as deeply with each inhalation as you’d like. Exhale slowly, languidly.
-
Rub your ears. Begin at the top of the ear & rub vigorously all the way down to the base, then travel back upwards again to the top. Each trip up & down is one loop. Complete five loops before stopping. It feels amazing & is good for you, so you can stop if five loops is all you have time for, or keep going for about three to five minutes. This is about how long it can take some types of tea to steep, so I sometimes do this while I’m waiting for my tea to brew. Do this once a day whenever you’re feeling fatigued, or several times throughout the day. In fact, the more you do it, the better it is for you.

I mentioned I like to do these steps while I’m making myself a cup of tea. My final step is a cup of energizing tea that contains low-caffeine or no caffeine. Caffeine-free herbal choices that can provide gentle stimulation include: DETOX TEA (the rosemary & tulsi give a mental & physical lift), PHILOSOPHER’S BREW (zesty lemongrass & citrus are very re-charging), HERBAL CHAI (spicy herbs stimulate the circulation, which naturally boost energy) & GREEN RAMA (an ancient ayurvedic herb that has a tonic-like, adaptogenic effect on the system). My favourite low-caffeine teas for stimulating energy include: CASABLANCA (soft spearmint & green tea give a nice lift), SUBLIME (a citrusy oasis of lime, citrus & green tea), HAPPY TEA (brightens & enlivens with lemon balm, white & green tea), WINTER WARRIOR (zippy ginger, lemon & green tea), ALLERGY & HAY FEVER DEFENSE (the head-clearing eucalyptus mint always does the trick) & finally JASMINE OASIS (this perfectly balanced blend of jasmine & green tea is said to stimulate creativity & boost mental powers, in traditional medicine).
Massaging the ears is an acupressure technique believed to strengthen the body’s energy reserves, according to Chinese medicine. Recent studies on acupressure indicate it can be effective, so if you’re skeptical, I highly recommend you try this for a week or two so you can experience the results firsthand. Try this first thing in the morning, mid-morning & in the mid-afternoon, or anytime you feel your energy lagging.
Many ancient practices tout the benefits of deep breathing & new studies are revealing there is plenty to benefit from. Breathing can revitalize your entire system by providing enhanced oxygen levels & it also activates the body’s relaxation response. It may sound contradictory to do something that supports relaxation to gain energy, but stress taxes your energy.
Aromatherapy naturally helps you breathe more deeply. Since ancient times it has been used to boost brain function & combat stress.
